What’s going on inside my dryer?

Most people don’t realize how dirty the inside of a dryer can get after just one year of use! We recommend doing an inner cleaning at least once a year to prolong the life of your dyer and reduce the risk of it becoming a fire hazard.

Maintenance Tips

There are several ways that you can maintain your appliances that will help prolong their life. Take a look at some helpful tips that we have provided for you!

  • For best results always rinse your dishes well before placing them into your dishwasher.

Use dry powder soap, not the liquid version. This will clean your dishes better, and increase your dishwasher’s life span. In addition to this, it is also recommended that the dishwasher door be left open slightly when not in use, to prevent odors and mold from developing.

  • Leave the washer door slightly open when not in use.

If you mainly use cold water when washing clothes, it’s recommended that you wash at least one hot water load a week. This will help keep the washer clean but also reduce the risk of odors developing.

Keeping the front door glass clean with glass cleaner helps reduce the chance of the door developing a leak.

Lastly, it is important to wait between washing loads, and not to overload it. This is because the parts within the machine heat up as they move the clothes around. If they do not get a chance to cool down, they will continue to heat up, making it more likely for a part to brake within the washing machine.

  • Similarly, to the washer, dryers can also overheat. It is important not to overload your dryer, and make sure you wait between loads so you don’t put strain on the parts.

Make sure the air vent it clear and not clogged. If it is clogged, the dryer can overheat and even become a fire hazard.

Lastly, the inside of a dryer (the actual insides of the machine) should be checked/cleaned at least once a year to prevent lint from building up. Keeping the inner parts of the dryer free from lint and debris can greatly reduce the risk of a fire hazard.

  • We recommend that once a year you clean the coils next to the compressor in the back of the refrigerator.

To extend the life of the compressor, clean the door seals (the rubber part on each of the refrigerator doors) with glass cleaner on a regular basis.
